Maintenance

The pore- and crack free nature of Totem Quartz has caused a maximum resistance to stains and sticky materials in addition to preventing bacterial growth on the surfaces.

Totem Quartz surfaces are really easy to clean; wiping them with a wet cloth and a bit of detergent will both clean the surface and restore its original color and brilliance.

To remove dried stains, all you need to do is use a wet cloth with hot water and soap. Of course, you may use common detergents, such as soft rubbing gels with bleach. But you have to make sure these substances are not abrasive to keep the surface shine.

As for sticky materials, such as food, paint, chewing gum, you should first try to remove as much bulk of the stain as possible using a plastic knife and then remove any trace with a wet cloth.

Tea, coffee, lemon juice, vinegar and colored solution stains will be removed by washing the surface with water and bleach after which the surface will have to be washed clean with water and soap.

Marker traces are removed with acetone, bleach and water. The acetone and bleach are poured onto the surface continually while a scouring pad is used to clean the surface. Finally, the surface is washed with water and soap.

Do not hesitate to use bleach or other light acids because they will not at all affect the stone itself, but remember to rinse the acid when you are done with the cleaning.

As for acetone, since it is highly volatile, it immediately evaporates from the stone surface in the open, leaving no trace behind, so it will not have a destructive effect on the surface.

Don’t put strong acids or bases on the surface. Compounds such as trichloroethane or methylene chloride (they are paint removers or strippers) have to be avoided in cleaning paint stains, too. Cleaning agents normally used on stoves, dishwashing machines or kitchen hoods may not be used on these surfaces due to their highly base nature.
